Oceans balancing on the edge…..

Oceans balancing on the edge…..

From a new report published in atmospheric science;
Strong warming occurred in the Southern Ocean, North Atlantic, Mediterranean Sea, and warm pool of the Indo-Pacific. They are climate hotspots of salinisation, deoxygenation, and acidification and indicate a deep-reaching compound ocean state, making the ocean ecosystems and the life they support more fragile.

Regime shifts in the world’s ocean and the shift from blue to green result in the oceans absorbing more energy. https://lnkd.in/e-rwpf6T

Pollution from black carbon, plastic, toxic forever chemicals and destruction of the surface micro-layer will reduce cloud formation and reflection of energy back into space over the oceans. Then you factor in low aragonite saturation and HNLC (high nutrient low chlorophyll) zones (or dead zones) that now cover 25% of the world’s ocean and 83% of the Southern Ocean and the fact that they are spreading at a rate of up to 2% year on year.

When you bring everything together, it is obvious that the life support system for the planet is heading for an end point over the next 10 to 20 years. Hopefully something will be done, such as our research proposal https://lnkd.in/ebYjF_jK, to help reverse the process.
