The marine ecosystem has been exploited, polluted and ignored. The oceans cover 71% of the planet and have over 90% of the planet’s productivity.
Based on the current rate of decline, which even the IPCC report with a high degree of certainty (99%) confirms the catastrophic consequences of ocean acidification. In addition, there are trophic cascade collapses, eutrophication and HNLC dead zones; the marine ecosystem in its current form will not survive the next 20 years, which means humanity may not survive.
The soil biome is super important, but 80% of all invertebrates in the biome have been destroyed, which means the capacity of the soil to support crops and plants is destroyed. 80% of all rain comes from aerosols and evaporation from the surface of the ocean. This SML layer contains microplastics, pharmaceuticals, herbicides, pesticides and toxic forever chemicals that all end up in every drop of rainwater falling everywhere. This is the main reason for the destruction of the soil biome and every terrestrial ecosystem.
We need to focus our efforts where they will deliver the greatest returns; we need to focus on the root cause, not the symptoms; nothing else matters.
