Safe non-toxic Soap and liquid cleaner

- 150g coconut butter
- 50g of shea butter (optional, make up with coconut if not available)
- 300g olive oil
- 60ml water
- 60g of 100 percent pure lye (sodium hydroxide)
- essential oils, 5ml
- 100 g of sodium bicarbonate
- dried herbs or flowers (optional)
- Add the coconut butter and oil to a pot and slowly heat in the slow cooker of solar oven to a temperature of 80 deg C and leave until the butter fully melts. Do not heat about 90 deg C
- Dissolved the lye into the water by adding the lye to the water ( no the other way around). Take care because the mixture will become very hot, also be extremely careful because the solution is very corrosive and dangerous. Be careful not to spill it of splash it on your skin or eyes. If any gets onto your skin or eyes, wash with copious amounts of water and seek medical attention.
- Once the Lye solution has fully dissolved, this may take about 10 minutes, add to the oil solution and gently stir for 10 seconds, and then use the immersion blender for 10 seconds to thoroughly mix
- If you have any suitable essential oils add them at this stage and mix with the blender again for 5 seconds
- Add the sodium bicarbonate and blend again for another 5 to 10 seconds
- Pour the mixture into the silicon moulds, and leave in a warm place for at least 24 to 48 hours.
- Once the soap is sufficiently solid, remove from the mould and leave for 1 to 6 weeks to fully cure. During this period stack the soap like a set of dominos standing on their side. This allows the air to circulate and for the water in the soap to evaporate.
- The soap may now be packaged in cardboard boxes or wrapped in paper.
If you have about 20 g of soap left over, add it to 300ml of water, also add 25g of sodium bicarbonate and fill a spray dispenser, this make a great cleaning solution.
